The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program - formerly referred to as "Section 8" -  is designed to help low-income families pay their rent. Eligible families select their own rental unit and pay no more than 40% of their family income towards rent. The Aitkin County HRA pays the remaining balance.

 

Those eligible for the program include:

 

• Elderly

• Handicapped or disabled individuals

• Families of two or more persons

• Single persons

 

Income and asset guidelines apply.

 

Rental units must pass specific housing quality standards and are inspected per HUD guidelines. Rental units that are included in the program may be: privately-owned duplexes, town homes, apartment unit cooperatives, congregate housing, single-family homes, and mobile homes that are the appropriate size for the family.
