Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Rental Assistance
The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Rental Assistance Program - previously referred to as "Section 8" - is designed to help low-income families pay their rent. Eligible families select their own rental unit and pay no more than 40% of their family income towards rent. The Aitkin County HRA pays the remaining balance.

Rental units must pass specific housing quality standards and are inspected per HUD Guidelines.

Fair Market Rents apply to each unit and limit the amount of rent and utilities that may be charged by the landlord.

The Aitkin County HRA administers the HCV Program for both Aitkin and Mille Lacs counties.

Village Apartments
The Aitkin County HRA owns two eight- unit buildings with the assistance of USDA Rural Development.

These units are one and two bedroom apartments available to elderly or disabled persons meeting the prescribed income guidelines.
